Necklaces

Necklaces have transcended being mere accessories throughout history and have gained symbolic value, carrying personal meanings in many cultures. A necklace not only reflects the wearer’s style but can also tell a unique story. Whether it's a simple chain or an elegant piece adorned with a gemstone, each one may carry the traces of an era, the memory of a moment, or an emotion. Necklaces represent much more than the moment they are worn; sometimes they symbolize a love, sometimes they celebrate an achievement, or simply express refined aesthetics.

History of Necklaces

In ancient Egypt, necklaces and the precious stones used on them were seen as a symbol of wealth. As time and cultures evolved, necklaces began to appear in various forms. For example, during the Ottoman era, almost every sultan was known to wear large, statement necklaces. The sultans often gifted either rings or elaborate necklaces. Similarly, in ancient Rome, necklaces also signified social status. During this time, necklace designs typically featured two-strand cords adorned with gold modified with square patterns. From this, we can understand how expensive and how much of a status symbol these necklaces were. Especially, pearl necklaces were considered to belong to a higher social status. Although it is unclear exactly when the pearl necklace first appeared, it is well known how much it was adored by the British Royal Family.
